Just listened to Kathryn Occhipinti’s Podcast. My Mom was born in Vittoria, Ragusa, Sicily in 1923 where Occhipinti is the most common surname. Ragusa is the largest town and capital of the Provence. Vittoria is the second largest town. Love the whole area and I love doing research in this area. Have been to Vittoria twice but very long ago. Would love to return —-soon. There is an amazing public Family Tree on Ancestry that includes 23,000 + people from Ragusa. A very amazing tree with lots of documentation. I am sure you would appreciate it. The Marriage documents for Vittoria pre 1866 are not on the Antenati but the State Archive in Ragusa has them. I have ordered copies of documents but would love to research at the State Archive. Look forward to reading your book on conversational Italian.

I appreciate Bob Sorrentino and all he has done to create his podcasts. The downside to listening to all the episodes, though, is that I hear his same stories because he repeats them on almost each one. Even though his guests may not have heard about his family and his roots, and how he was going to go to Italy last year, his listeners have. Maybe he could write a bio for his website for everyone to read and then use his podcasts to listen to what his guests have to say. Spend more time asking them questions so we hear something new. He has great guests and I’d like to hear more about them.

Thank you and I am trying to talk less.

Bob, it’s a fabulous & informative website. I have listened to just a couple of podcasts so far and thoroughly enjoyed them. Mille grazie!

      Thank you

  4. Carl Bufalo

My family name is Bufalo. Where did they originate in Italy?

  5. Frannie

Thank you so much for the wonderful podcast! It’s a great combination of history, culture & useful information. I love the stories of traveling to ancestral towns, meeting family & growing up in the Italian American culture of NY/NJ (it made me so happy on an episode when Parkside & Tough Tony (RIP) was spoken of). Have my fingers crossed that one day Alimena & Gangi, Sicily will be covered. Been listening for pure enjoyment but, after the sudden loss of a cousin, I’m needing to find the other living side of his family and have hit a wall. They were Italian from Corona & Ridgewood, Queens. I know you’re from the area so I’m wondering if you can point me in the direction of good local resources or genealogists. Thanks again for all your work. You were great on the Italian American Podcast, too.

Frannie, are you a member of my Corona Queens Photos of the 30’s 40’s and 50’s group on FB? If not join it, there is a lot of information. Also, friend me on FB bosorrentino.
